COACH EDUCATION RESOURCES

Coach Education Workshop - New Structure

In light of the curriculum changes and the transition from the old to the new in terms of community football coaching in Australia, Football Federation Australia hosted a workshop for Member Federation assessors and presenters to educate them on the new community coach education pathway.

Day 1 consisted of:

  • Familiarisation with the new community coach education pathway and processes from grassroots to senior level.
  • The key changes to the new system and the new approach to community coaching

Han Berger spoke on day 1 about the importance of community coaches to focus on organisation and facilitation of coaching sessions opposed to the ‘Stop, Stand Still’ approach to coaching at this level. This new approach encourages players to learn through games and learning from mistakes.

Day 2 consisted of:

  • Practical sessions by all attendees including course presenters Norm Boardman and Les Bee
These sessions were developed to display coaching via modification rather than the ‘Stop Stand Still Method’
  • All participants of the course took part in the sessions with the highlight of the day being a David Smith (High Performance Manager NNSW Football) screamer from distance with the outside of his left foot.
  • These practical session saw course participants identify session objectives and modify their session to ensure players learn specific outcomes.

Day 3 & 4 consisted of:

  • Thor Algren lead course participants in learning the basic functions of the Secrets 2 Sport (S2S) program
  • Developing training sessions and plan within the S2S program

Thor Algen, developer of S2S was pleasantly surprised with the ease of use by everyone and the vision S2S has towards its use in Australian football.

With this new found knowledge, Northern NSW Football Staff are looking forward to implementing this new coaching structure in the New Year.
