Broadmeadow Magic welcomed NSW Premier League outfit Bonnyrigg White Eagles to Wanderers Oval on Saturday the 6th of February for a pre season fixture.
The match finished 1-1 in an evenly fought contest that provided both teams with numerous chances.
The White Eagles went a goal up after twenty one minutes as they capitalized on some quick thinking by taking a quick free kick outside the area to catch the Magic defense off guard to place the ball in the back of the net.
The first half proved to be a free flowing game of football from end to end which saw a lot of attacking moves and shots at goal as both keepers remained solid under pressure.
The Magic however did have the better of the chances in the first half as they used their pace upfront getting behind the Eagles defense on several occasions who played high up on the park. Despite having a number of one on one opportunities in front of goal as a result, it took a great individual effort from Peter Haynes to put the Magic on the score sheet after thirty five minutes who proved his class with a powerful run and clinical finish.
The second half was unlike the first as both sides battled to create chances and failed to break down the opposition defense with great success. Bonnyrigg White Eagles became aware of the Magic’s pace upfront and ability to release their strikers as they sat deeper and their keeper was quick off the line to clean up anything penetrating the defensive line. The Magic failed to find a solution to this in breaking down the defense that worked so well for them in the first half.
Credit to the Magic’s keeper Scott Carter who pulled off some wonderful saves including tipping one out of the top left corner and he handled the aerial balls very well. Their defensive pairing in the middle of the park also put constant pressure on Bonnyrigg’s strikers who as a result found seventy percent of their shots off target. With a seemingly solid defense and with lots of options upfront, this first hit out for Broadmeadow Magic showed many promising signs for the upcoming season.
