2023 National Youth Championships for Boys Day Four Wrap

Finals fever swept across Valentine Sports Park as the National Youth Championships Boys’ tournament served up some exhilarating clashes.

Day four of the tournament saw the last group stage matches being played to decide the top two teams of each pool, with the top placed teams playing the second placed team in the other group, to determine who features in Friday’s Finals.

Northern NSW push teams all the way

Northern NSW Football’s Technical Director could not be prouder of the performances of the under-15s and under-16s teams as they went into the final stretch of the tournament.

Day four on Thursday saw the under-15s and under-16s teams push their opponents all the way to fight for a spot in the semi-finals, with both sides narrowly missing out.

The under-15s put up a tough fight against NSW Metro White, picking up a 0-0 draw. The team finished third in their group and will face NSW Metro Blue from Group A in their final match for the week on Friday morning.

The under-16s team also secured a draw in their match-up against NSW Metro White, with Jake Goodwin scoring to secure a 1-1 draw. The side finished third on the table on goal difference and go head-to-head with South Australia from Group A in their last game of the tournament.

“I am impressed with the efforts that both sets of players gave in such tough battles. Each player gave it everything they could, showcasing brave and determined performances with proactive periods in possession,” Doidge said.

“Overall, I am pleased with the players and coaches' immense efforts over the duration of the week. I am looking forward to wrapping up a successful tournament and wish the players and coaches good luck with their final matches.”

Grand Final Fixtures Decided

The National Youth Champions of both the Under-15 and Under-16 divisions will be decided on Friday with the Final Fixtures now confirmed.

After starting with 13 teams in both Age Groups, only two remain and have the chance to leave Valentine Sports Park on Friday afternoon with some silverware.

At 10:30am the Under-15’s Final will take place featuring Queensland White against Victoria Blue. Both sides are from Group A and faced each other in Round 2. Nothing could split the two teams with the match finishing locked at 4-all setting up a tantalising clash in the Final.

At 12:00pm the Under-16’s Final will kick-off between Victoria Blue and NSW Metro White who both finished first in Group A and B respectively.

Once the final whistle has blown on the National Youth Championships 2023 Boys’ Tournament, the Official Closing Ceremony will take place where the Player of the Tournament and Goalkeeper of the Tournament will be announced.
