Northern NSW Football has achieved a record-breaking number of more than 500 teams register for its summer FIVE5 competitions.
With there being more interest in football than ever before in Australia on the back of the huge success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023ᵀᴹ, NNSWF’s Football FIVE5 Summer Leagues and Fast FIVE5 competitions are filling up fast, exceeding numbers from 2022.
“Participation numbers are up across the board but especially in the women’s and girl’s competitions,” NNSWF Competitions Administrator Luke Blundell said.
“There are already 108 more teams in our competitions compared with previous years, which we expect will continue to increase with registrations still open.”
NNSWF CEO Peter Haynes was thrilled with the immediate impact the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023ᵀᴹ has had in the football community.
“It Is wonderful to see how the success of the World Cup has influenced our participation rates within the northern NSW region, especially within that women and girls space,” Haynes said.
“We hope that these figures continue to grow throughout all of our football competitions throughout the summer and into next season.”
Some of the statistics from 2023 Summer Leagues registrations include:
Football FIVE5 Senior Women – 34 teams (previous record of 29 teams in 2022)
Football FIVE5 Senior teams – 244 teams
Football FIVE5 Youth Girls – 27 teams (previous record of 11 teams in 2022)
Football FIVE5 Youth teams – 107 teams (previous record of 64 teams in 2022)
Fast FIVE5 Girls – 26 teams (not previously offered)
Fast FIVE5 teams – 151 teams (previous record of 105 in 2019)
Total teams – 502 teams (previous record of 394 in 2022)
