Corder, Crowley shine at 2023 van Egmond Jennings Awards

Cassie Corder and Braedyn Crowley were the big winners at the 2023 van Egmond Jennings Awards on Saturday night.

Football Australia General Manager Member Federations and Socceroos hero Joshua Kennedy was among the crowd of more than 400 people at Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre for Northern NSW Football’s night of nights, with another brilliant season on the pitch across NNSWF’s premier competitions to celebrate.

The awards marked a special night in NNSWF history, with the inaugural van Egmond Medal awarded to the NPL Women’s NNSW Player of the Year in honour of Matildas centurion and Dudley Redhead United FC junior Emily van Egmond.

Seventeen-year-old Charlestown Azzurri attacker Cassie Corder was crowned the inaugural van Egmond Medal winner for her stand-out season in the NPL Women’s NNSW competition.

Newcastle Olympic’s Elodie Dagg earned the NPL Women’s NNSW Players’ Player award and the competition’s Media Award. Keelan Hamilton was named as NPL Women’s NNSW Coach of the Year for his impressive season at Maitland FC which saw the Magpies reach the finals for the first time, win the Women’s State Cup and finish runner-up in the Women’s League Cup.

Brayden Crowley was the runaway winner of the NPL Men’s NNSW Player of the Year and Golden Boot awards for the second year in a row.

Broadmeadow Magic midfielder Bailey Wells also shone bright receiving the NPL Men’s Players’ Player, NPLM NNSW Media Award and Young Player of the Year award. Broadmeadow coach John Bennis was named NPL Men’s NNSW Coach of the Year.

It was also a big night for the HIT106.9 Northern League One competition, with West Wallsend’s Kane Goodchild named Player of the Year.

NNSWF CEO Peter Haynes congratulated the winners and thanked everyone for an outstanding season.

“Cassie and Braedyn were extremely deserving winners of the NPL NNSW Player of the Year awards,” Haynes said.

“Cassie had an outstanding season in the NPL Women’s NNSW competition, receiving the highest honour for her efforts. Braedyn continued to excel in the NPL Men’s NNSW competition, receiving consecutive awards for his impressive performances and scoring an incredible number of goals this season.

“It was a big year for our premier competitions with a 12th team joining the NPL Men’s NNSW competition and our NPL Women’s NNSW competition having another successful year. And Northern League One was an incredibly close and exciting competition this season as well.

“I’d like to thank all the volunteers across our premier clubs for making the season what it was this year. And congratulations to all the recipients of awards for their success.”
