Mid Coast FC 2-0 Warners Bay FC

Mid Coast FC’s coach Amanda Langlar was thrilled for her side to pick up their first points of the season with a 2-0 win over Warners Bay on Sunday afternoon.

The Middies finally got themselves into the winner’s circle in front of a home crowd at Taree Zone field after a tough start to their 2024 campaign.

Evie Gill opened the scoring for the afternoon and netted Mid Coast’s second goal of the season in the 31st minute after Warners Bay goalkeeper Mia Wallace was unable to clear the ball.

Beth Kauter sliced a perfectly placed through ball onto the run of Gill which allowed the attacker to get in behind Warners Bay’s defence and charge towards goal.

Gill’s first strike at goal was denied by Wallace but the goalkeeper was unable to push the ball away far enough which allowed Gill a second bite at the cherry and buried the ball into the back of the net.

Mid Coast struck again in the 48th minute, with a hard and low strike that caught Wallace off guard and snuck into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

The Panthers were unable to get themselves back into the game and conceded their seventh straight loss.

Langlar was pleased that her side finally ground out a result against an opponent with experienced players.

“It was exciting for the girls, it has always been a process for us,” Langlar said.

“Today the girls showed that they can play first grade.

“Nice to keep a clean sheet and to score not one but two goals.

“Whilst it was a bottom-of-the-table clash, we were still up against some quality players.

“I thought our defence did a really good job with Emily Diaz, they were really confident and did really well in terms of being dominant.”

“I felt we were the strongest side and if we can build from that we will have much more to offer this season.”

The Mid Coast coach was impressed with her side’s resilience so far this season and believes that they can continue to build on their performance.

“The girls are buzzing tonight. They have copped it from a lot of different angles but they have never wavered,” Langlar said.

“The side has been disappointed in some of our heavy defeats, but they keep turning up to training and want to do better.

“We still have a long way to go but we are on the right path now and the girls believe that they can be competitive in this competition.”

“I think the girls are great and I couldn’t be prouder to coach a better bunch.

“I look forward to the rest of the competition and to see how much more we improve.”

Despite the win, Mid Coast remains at the bottom of the table, but they hope they make it two from two next Sunday when they host Newcastle Olympic.

Warners Bay also stay seventh on the table and will need to turn things around when they travel to Alder Park to face New Lambton next Saturday.
