Strengthening bonds through Daughters and Dads Football

The Daughters and Dads Football program is back for Term 2 across northern NSW.

Jess Terry has been involved with the program as a facilitator in the Newcastle region. She has facilitated programs in New Lambton, Edgeworth and Charlestown.

Terry’s passion for football on top of her background as a coach and a teacher drove her to become involved with the program.

“My role in this program is multifaceted yet deeply rewarding. Acting as a facilitator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of guiding daughters and dads through a journey of mutual growth,” Terry said.

“Together, we delve into empowerment content, engage in practical football sessions, and most importantly, have a blast while doing so. It's a joyous amalgamation of skill-building, laughter, and shared moments of connection.”

The Daughters and Dads Football program introduces football to fathers or father figures and their daughters through a range of physical and social activities. The program aims to break the barriers to female participation and increase the representation of women and girls in football.

Terry believed that the program positively impacted her as a facilitator as well as the participants.

“I can't help but feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to witness the magic of familial bonds flourishing on the field,” Terry said.

“One of the most significant takeaways from my time with the program is the realisation of football's accessibility in Newcastle. It serves as a unifying force, transcending age and gender barriers to bring families and friends together in a shared pursuit of joy and camaraderie.

“I discovered firsthand the infectious power of smiles and the remarkable ability of daughters to appreciate even the corniest dad jokes.”

The advice that Terry gives to those who want to get involved is to seize the opportunity.

“As I look ahead, I am filled with optimism for the future of the program and the countless memories yet to be created on the football field,” Terry said.

“To all the dads and daughters out there, I extend an invitation to join us on this incredible journey of growth, laughter, and shared moments. Together, let's kick-start a legacy of love and camaraderie that transcends the boundaries of the football pitch.”
