Northern NSW Football board gets to work

The new Northern NSW Football Board of Directors met last week and have already got to work on creating positive change for the football community.

Mike Parsons was elected Chair of the NNSWF Board following an extraordinary general meeting in December with Lisa Evans, Lauren Edwards, Paul Sandilands and David Willoughby joining Parsons on the board. Incumbent board member Mark Trenter was named deputy chair.

The new board met for the first time this year at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Friday with NNSWF Interim CEO Peter Haynes also in attendance.

A number of positive key decisions were made including the establishment of advisory groups to:

  • Provide options to establish promotion and relegation in men’s football in northern NSW, extending from NPL Men’s NNSW to the Zone Premier Leagues
  • Provide options to establish promotion and relegation in women’s football in northern NSW, including the formation of a women’s second division to underpin the NPL Women’s NNSW competition
  • Provide options to fund and deliver services to community clubs via member zones
  • Provide options to improve outcomes of the Junior Development League with a focus on cost and elite player development pathways

Other key decisions included:

  • Establishing a recruitment committee as part of the search for a new CEO
  • Peak Steering Committee meetings are to be held in regional northern NSW throughout 2023 to ensure more accessibility for regional zone representatives

Parsons said he was happy with the early progress made.

“We’ve identified some key issues that we think require attention and we will start working towards these goals as priorities,” Parsons said.

“It was great to be in the same room with our new board members and have some meaningful discussions about our short and long-term plans.

“I look forward to a productive year ahead and executing strategies to benefit the entire football community across northern NSW.”
