The NCF Emerging Skill Acquisition Program (ESAP) is the official pre-SAP program, designed to introduce players to a structured development environment and prepare them for progression into the SAP program.

ESAP focuses on building strong fundamental skills and behaviours required for players entering the NCF talent pathway.

Program Overview

ESAP is designed for players identified through a trial and selection process, with a limited intake to ensure a focused and structured environment.

For 2027:

  • 20 players selected
  • 1 training session per week – Wednesday 4:15pm to 5:30pm
  • 2 dedicated coaches
  • Program runs from February to August

 

Program Fee

The ESAP program fee for 2027 is:

$590

  • Training kit is to be purchased separately via the NCF Club Shop

Development Focus

ESAP is a pre-foundation stage, focusing on preparing players for the expectations of SAP.

The program focuses on:

✅ Fundamental Technical Skills

  • Ball control
  • Basic passing and receiving
  • Coordination and movement

✅ Introduction to Game Awareness

  • Understanding basic decision making
  • Awareness of space and teammates

✅ Player Behaviour & Habits

  • Listening and following instruction
  • Effort and engagement
  • Positive attitude in training

Program Expectations

Players selected into ESAP are expected to:

  • Commit to all scheduled sessions
  • Be focused and engaged during training
  • Show willingness to learn and improve
  • Begin developing the habits required for future progression

Pathway

ESAP is the first step within the NCF development pathway:

ESAP → SAP → PYL

The program is designed to feed directly into SAP, with players developing the foundational skills and behaviours required for progression.

  • Developing basic technical ability
  • Preparing players for the demands of SAP
