The Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) is an Australian-wide program to perfect and accelerate the skill development of identified players at the critical ages of 9 to 12. This period is the age group universally acknowledged to be at the ideal mental and physical stage to develop both fine and gross motor skills in a football context.

The program is conducted starting with trials in October and then training from February to September with Gala Days held throughout against other programs in Northern NSW.

AIM

The aim is to provide the necessary technical ‘tools’ for players to help them be able to play the game at the highest possible level with a focus on functional game skills.

FUNDAMENTAL CORE SKILLS

The Skill Acquisition Program focuses on the development of the four core skills:

  • 1v1
  • First Touch
  • Striking the ball
  • Running with the ball

Coaches in the SAP Phase will take a holistic approach to achieve the pre-determined learning outcomes for each session and game. The players will develop in an environment with high expectations, focusing on performing the core skills in game-like scenarios.

North Coast Football will be running programs in Coffs Harbour and Grafton.
